Who writes these guides
Top Home Plan is a small independent editorial operation. Guides are researched, written and scored by the Top Home Plan editorial team working to a single documented process — the same rubric, the same sourcing rules and the same weights for every category, published in full at how we test.
We deliberately cover four categories rather than forty. A team this size can either produce a lot of pages or produce pages it can defend, and we would rather do the second. Every ranking names the conditions under which it would change, and every page carries the date it was last reviewed rather than the date a word was last touched.
What qualifies us to rank anything
Not credentials — process. Nobody needs a certificate to tell you that a tool chest with unstated steel gauge is thin steel, or that a nixie clock listing showing blue digits is selling LEDs. What that judgement needs is a method applied consistently, sources checked against something other than other review sites, and a willingness to say when the honest answer is “none of these yet”.
So rather than asking you to trust a byline, we publish the thing a byline is supposed to stand for:
- The checklist, written down before assessment begins — including the rule that we never call a product tested unless somebody actually used it.
- The editorial policy — independence, sourcing, corrections and our use of AI tools.
- The affiliate disclosure, including exactly which decisions commission is allowed to touch. The answer is none of them.
If our method does not convince you, our conclusions should not either. That is the point of publishing it.

Corrections reach a person
If something on this site is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Factual corrections are made in place and change the page's review date; anything that alters a recommendation, a score or a ranking order carries a dated note explaining what changed. Email contact@tophomeplan.com with the page and the specific claim.
Conflicts of interest
Anyone contributing to this site must disclose a financial interest in any manufacturer or retailer whose products they cover, and does not work on that category where one exists. Nobody here accepts payment, product retention arrangements, or hospitality in exchange for coverage. Affiliate commission is disclosed on every page and is earned after you decide, never before.
