Who we are

About Top Home Plan

Fewer categories, covered properly. Here is who we are, how we make money, and the guardrails that stop the second thing corrupting the first.

Why this site exists

Search for almost any home product and you will find a hundred pages that all recommend the same five things, in the same order, with the same adjectives. Most were assembled without anyone touching the products. That is not a moral failure so much as an economic one — thin content is cheap and it ranks.

Top Home Plan is an attempt to do the opposite: fewer categories, covered properly. We would rather have four categories we can defend than forty we cannot.

How we are funded

This site is reader-supported through affiliate commissions. When you buy something through a link here, the retailer pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise.

That model creates an obvious incentive problem, so here is precisely how we handle it:

  • Ranking is decided before linking. Products are shortlisted and scored on merit; the affiliate link is added afterwards, to whatever came first.
  • We do not display prices. Which means we cannot be tempted to rank by commission value.
  • We link to what we recommend, including when we recommend nothing. If the honest answer in a category is “wait”, that is what the page says.
  • Every affiliate link is disclosed above the fold, before you click anything.

Full details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Who writes this

Guides are researched and written by the Top Home Plan research team, working to the process set out in how we test and the standards in our editorial policy. Every page carries a last-updated date, and every ranking states the conditions under which it would change.

What we cover

Four categories at present — smart home and automation, mattresses and sleep, tool storage, and clocks and displays. They have one thing in common: they are categories where the specification that matters is not the one in the headline, and where a bad purchase is expensive or annoying to undo.

What we are not

We are not a shop. We do not sell, stock, ship or service anything, we hold no inventory, and we are not affiliated with any manufacturer named on this site. We cannot help with an order, a delivery or a warranty claim — those go to the retailer you bought from.
